What is Fascia?
- Fascia is the thin connective tissue forming a three dimensional matrix throughout the body. It covers organs, blood vessels, nerves, muscles and bones, and every cell in the body. It is the tissue of intracellular communication affecting metabolism. When traumatized, fascia becomes restricted, binding down on pain sensitive structures such as nerves and blood vessels.Because fascia forms a web throughout the body, trauma in one location can cause restrictions/maladjustments and symptoms in other parts of the body. These restrictions cause the body to lose flexibility and strength which eventually affects the ability to function in normal activities of daily living.
Why do Restrictions form?
- Restrictions occur through physical trauma, cumulative injuries, scar tissue, inflammatory reactions, poor posture, and emotional life stressors. Restrictions in one area of the body can affect the body as a whole. This evidenced by how people are unable to function in everyday activities, whether it is mentally, physically, or emotionally. Restrictions create pain and stiffness prohibiting you from doing the things you like to do!
What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release is a gentle safe hands on approach to treating the body. Treatment consists of sustained pressure in combination with stretches and motions that unravel tension and tissue restrictions. Pressure may vary depending on your body's needs. Myofascial Release eliminates restrictions relieving pressure off on pain sensitive structures. The body's alignment is then restored and there is relief from pain and stiffness. The body returns to a more optimal healthy state.
Pain can cause one to change their posture in attempt to alleviate the symptoms. This in turn causes additional problems and becomes self defeating. We call it compensation which in turn can cause disequilibrium within in your body. Let a Myofascial Release Therapist assist you in alleviating the restrictions to facilitate a more natural alignment of the body as a whole. From there you can gain more mobilty and the pain may potentially diminish. Myofascial release is proven to be longer lasting compared to other alternative therapies, especially if you take the time and effort to treat yourself. A good Myofascial Release Therapist will take the time to educate you how to treat yourself when you are unable to obtain a treatment.
